Finals Painting
| 30x40 Oil on Canvas "Morning Routine" |
Artist Statement:
This painting explores the feeling of trying to hold onto a moment that you already know is fleeting. It captures an intimate, quiet interaction, one that might otherwise go unnoticed but transforms it into something permanent through reflection and distortion. By placing the figures within a fogged mirror, the image exists somewhere between reality and memory, emphasizing how love is often experienced not just in the present, but in the way we remember it.
The monochromatic palette strips the scene down to its emotional core, removing distractions and focusing on form, gesture, and connection. The softness of the figures contrasts with the sharpness of the drips running down the surface, suggesting the tension between clarity and impermanence. The streaks act almost like time itself pulling the image downward, threatening to dissolve it, while also preserving its presence in a different way.
There is a sense of closeness and vulnerability in the way the figures lean into each other, suspended in a moment of trust and affection. While the imagery may be inspired by personal experience, the intention is to create something universal, an image that reflects the small, deeply human moments that often define our relationships more than grand gestures do. Ultimately, this piece is about memory, intimacy, and the quiet urgency of love. It asks what it means to truly “catch” a moment, and whether holding onto it changes it or simply proves how meaningful it was in the first place.
